Marinated Style Fried Mackerel (Saba no namban fuu)

  • 4 pieces mackerel fillet with skin
  • 1/2 Onion sliced
  • 1 Green pepper cut into long thin strips
  • ½ Carrot cut into long thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons Japanese soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cooking flour
  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil


  1. Soak a sliced onion in water for 10-15 minutes
  2. Cut mackerel into a bite size
  3. Mix well Japanese soy sauce, rice vinegar and sugar in a bowl
  4. Covered each piece of mackerel with cooking flour
  5. Hear a cooking oil in a fry pan over high temperature
  6. Fry the mackerel in a fry pan until both side of the mackerel become blown(about 5 minutes each side)
  7. add fried mackerel into a Japanese soy sauce, rice vinegar and sugar mixture
  8. add onion, green pepper and carrot into mixture and mix well
  9. keep it in a refrigerator for a while (1-2 hours)
